In the final years of the Bakumatsu, wandering mercenary Yojiro Akizuki travels the length and breadth of Japan. And while he employs his sword in the usual fashion, he also uses it to help him locate supernatural items which he pursues with single-minded determination, often with bloody results. In the course of his quest, he crosses paths with a traveling theater group whose members have their own dark agenda. Is it a chance meeting or the result of some, as yet, undiscovered conspiracy?

Courcast score breakdown
CourScore weighs signals for an official sequel announcement within 18 months, blending attention velocity, completion strength, and catalogue health.
CourScore
16.6
CourScore measures renewal signals out of 100. It is not a calibrated probability of an official sequel announcement within 18 months.
Signal coverage: 100% • Signal freshness: High • Updated 11 hours ago
Top reasons
- Committee renewal track record - Lead committee members (Sunrise, Bandai Visual, Sentai Filmworks) have a smoothed catalogue continuation rate of 29%, above the catalogue average of 14%
- Committee collaboration history - Titles sharing at least two committee members: 12 of 64 have a catalogued successor (19%), compared with 14% across the catalogue
- Titles like this rarely return - 20 years with no new entry: of series (first entries) in that position, under 1% got a new season or film within 10 years
Runway
Anime original
This is an anime original, not an adaptation, so there is no source material to run down - renewal turns on sales and popularity rather than runway.
